It might have been one of those times that the person who ordered it thought the three speed would be quicker in the quarter mile. Or they  just didn’t want to pay for the four speed.

If you’re going to get the Stage 1, you’d think the 4 speed wouldn’t be that much of a stretch. Either the buyer wanted a wide ratio trans, or maybe an old school fogey who thought 3 grads was plenty? Who knows.
